My Go-To Recipes

Here's my collection of standout recipes by well known and not so well known chefs. I've made each one many times. I'm always looking for a 'WOW' and these recipes deliver everytime.

Let’s Cook Together, BEST Lentil Bolognese!

Let’s Cook Together, BEST Lentil Bolognese!

This Lentil Bolognese recipe by detoxinista.com is a real standout! I have posted other similar recipes on this blog but this one is a winner! I made it because it appeared simple and uncomplicated and I had all the ingredients...No last minute scramble or substitutions needed. This came together beautifully in 45 minutes. I used my Lentilles Françaises which always cook well and maintain some structure after a long simmer. The result is a rich, savoury sauce that I served over penne. Thankfully I doubled the recipe so had enough to share with family. Trust me and try it:)

Yotam Ottolenghi's Curried Lentil, Tomato, and Coconut Soup!

I LOVE Ottolenghi's recipes. Everyone I have made so far has been a repeat. I have yet to try this soup so let's make it together, live on Instagram, this Saturday at 5pm. This is perfect for a chilly, December week-end.

Ottolenghi’s Puy Lentil & Aubergine Stew

Ottolenghi’s Puy Lentil & Aubergine Stew

This BIG BOLD flavourful dish was ready in @40 minutes...maybe a bit longer but whatever it was definitely worth every minute. If you don’t know Ottolenghi, he’s a star. He’s an Israeli-English chef, author of several bestselling cookbooks and owner of 6 or so eateries in London. It wasn’t until I received his cookbook SIMPLE that I truly began to appreciate his recipes. SIMPLE is a game-changer: few ingredients, interesting spices and herb combinations with minimal time produce outstanding meals. This recipe is just that. With minimal time these days to plan ahead, meals are a bit of a scramble for me so to be able to pull this together and be ´WOWED’ is such a treat. We enjoyed this stew over medium brown rice :)

30 Minute Vegan Curry Lentils

30 Minute Vegan Curry Lentils

This was last night's recipe filmed 'live' on Instagram. It was a winner! Despite the red lentil 'blooper' (the operator's blooper and nothing to do with the recipe), this was super simple to make. For a non vegan option, you can switch the vegetable broth for chicken. If you're looking for a quick plant-based meal, weekday or weeknight, this is it. We enjoyed it over medium brown rice, my favourite :)

My Bread Mentor, Jim Lahey

My Bread Mentor, Jim Lahey

A customer said to me last week "I would love to purchase your flour but I don't know how to make sourdough bread. Do you have a recipe?" For anyone ready to embark on a bread-making journey, I would highly recommend starting with a basic no-knead recipe first like the one here by Jim Lahey. It uses a scant amount of commercial yeast and the process and method are simple yielding incredible results. From there, the progression to sourdough will seem less daunting. Lahey also has an excellent recipe for sourdough which I will post soon. I love his easy no nonsense style:dump ingredients, mix vigorously, shape and bake. So start here! Reach out if you have any questions at martha@shopmarthas.com

p.s. This photo is my bread using Jim Lahey's no-knead recipe :)

Vegan Beluga Lentil Curry

Vegan Beluga Lentil Curry

I ran into a friend yesterday. “LOVE your website and your products but we need recipes! Show us what to make with all those lentils!” This vegan curry recipe is created by a wonderful German chef I follow closely. Her recipes are always 5 star. As I say over and over again, I’m always looking for a ‘wow’. This Curry can be prepped and on the table in @30-40 minutes. Super simple, vegan and full of bold fresh flavours...try it :)
